MAGAZINE
From winter of 2005 to spring of 2008 I was the primary writer of cover features, secondary articles, and profiles for this advancement publication. From winter of 2006 to spring of 2008 I also assumed many editorial responsibilities.
Article samples (all in pdf):
Small Daily Differences includes several short pieces on various outreach initiatives, including participation in a library program in which kids develop their reading skills by reading to specially selected dogs (and one cat).
New Season, New Life spotlights the school’s groundbreaking neonatal foal unit, featuring a program in which students, staff, and members of the community volunteer in shifts to sit round-the-clock with foals in critical care.
What is Your Problem? For this article, the photographer and I sat in on a behavioral consultation for Floyd, the dog featured in the story. The dog’s hair trigger was as unsettling for the clinician as for us.
For this issue I also began a series on translational medicine, starting with research into liver disease processes that affect animals and humans in similar ways.
Forging Healthy Partnerships This three-in-one feature on farm animal medicine took me to a small dairy farm in rural Connecticut at the tail end of February, with mud season in full sway (yes, I wore my boots).
For this issue I also wrote about a patent-pending device to detect waterborne pathogens, and RNAi-based research on schistosomes.
DEVELOPMENT
I've written copy for posters to be permanently mounted on the wall of the Cummings School’s satellite clinic in Walpole, Massachusetts. The posters promote the clinic’s services and reinforce its relationship to the veterinary school.
I've also recently been asked to collaborate with Cummings School’s development leadership on a direct-mail appeal to prospective donors.
